    About this book

Cantonese for Everyone, written by an experienced teacher for independent learners and students on taught courses, is practical and easy to use. It is meant for people who have no prior knowledge of Cantonese but have a strong desire to learn and a need to use it as soon as possible. The course offers a step-by-step approach to learning spoken Cantonese. It introduces students to the basic characteristics of the Cantonese dialect, the Cantonese phonetic structure, the basic communication skills, commonly used expressions in daily situations, and the Hong Kong and Chinese culture. This book uses the Linguistic Society of Hong Kong Cantonese Romanization Scheme (also known as Jyutping) for Cantonese phonetic transcription. There is another version of the book available that uses the Yale Romanization System.

* Detailed Cantonese pronunciation explanations
* Use of Jyutping with English translations
* Key to phonetic symbols after the title page
* Chinese characters provided for you to practice with native Cantonese speakers
* Clear, accessible format of about 100 useful sentence structures
* Thorough explanation of everyday vocabulary in fifteen common situations
* Lots of related vocabulary introduced for each target topic
* Plenty of exercises provided for regular practice
* Cantonese-to-English and English-to-Cantonese Glossaries including around 1,500 entries for your reference
